Can’t Drive 55

Fox and Friends or doing a tribute to the 80’s this week and at the same time are reporting on proposed legislation which will lower the national speed limit in the US, back to 55 miles per hour. This made me think of the song ” I can’t Drive 55″.

The bill is designed to help combat the high gas problem and reduce consumption. According to the report that move could reduce our consumption by 167,000 barrels of Oil a day. studies have shown that for every ten miles per hour over 65 miles per hour then you consume 15% more gas.

This seems like a good move to me and something that Washington should pass. It will not take any one that much longer to get somewhere at 55, than it will at 75 and to save fuel and reduce gasoline costs then this is something we should all be willing to do. Now if the bill can only get some traction in the legislature. Of course this is only one move that needs to be made. We still need to increase production in the short term and develop alternative forms of energy in the long term. Its good news that our government is starting to try some things to help with the high cost of  gas, but they still need to keep working on this problem and its all the voter’s duty to apply pressure on Government  to force them to keep making these needed changes.
