Zero Pollution Motors is taking green cars to an entire new level. The French based company has came up with a compressed air vehicle which will be available in the U.S soon. The Zero Pollution Motors vehicle could revolutionize the way we think about transportation. From the website the company states:
Pure Driving: The Revolutionary Compressed Air Vehicle
If you can, imagine a vehicle that runs on air, achieves over 100 gas-equivalent mpg and over 90 mph, has zero to low C02 emissions, seats six, has plenty of space for luggage, cuts no safety corners, and costs no more than an average economy to mid-size vehicle.
This is the expected performance of the revolutionary compressed air vehicle that Zero Pollution Motors (ZPM) is introducing to North America. The vehicle is powered by the Compressed Air Engine (CAE) developed by Motor Development International (MDI), a 15-year old company based in Nice, France, and headed by inventor and Formula One race car engineer, Guy Negre. ZPM is the exclusive representative for MDI in the United States.
This could really change items and help to reduce our dependency on foreign oil. Compressed air is not a new technology and there are many industrial grade air compressors on the market today so you could easily recharge the vehicle with air if you where running low during long trips.
The citycat almost zero pollution vehicle operates in manner where it runs totally on compressed air while operating at speeds under 35 mile per hour. At higher speeds it uses small amounts of fuel and can run on gasoline, propane, ethanol, or bio-fuels. Even at the higher speeds the amount on carbon produced from emissions is a lot lower than the hybrid vehicles available today. The amount of emissions is estimated at .14 lbs, of C02 per mile.
The CAE( compressed air engine) operates in the following manner:
From http://zeropollutionmotors.us/?page_id=64
Mode A: Operating with compressed air from Air Tank only 1. in town under 35 mph.
Mode B: Operating with compressed air from Air Tank only 1. which is being heated 2. to expand volume before entering engine.
Mode C: Operating with air from the Intake 3. which is being heated 2. to expand volume before entering engine - on highway over 35 mph.
Mode D: Operating as in Mode C but also refilling 4. Air Tank while running.
The company estimates the price of the vehicle at around 18K dollars so its affordable for most people and considering the rising cost of gasoline then the vehicle could pay for its self in fuel savings easily.
