The World’s Energy Crisis
The growing demand for energy is surpassing its resources, leading the world toward a serious energy crisis. We have always known that the energy we use every day is limited, yet we continue to take it for granted. There is no unlimited supply of gas, oil, or even water. However, we are not taking adequate action to help head off a possible energy crisis. When I say ‘we’, I am not just referring to the governments but to everyone, the common people.

Oil and gas have already become too costly, and with every passing day, they are moving towards being extinct. Some misinformed individuals believe that energy crisis is made up. They don’t seem to be looking at the whole picture. There have been three major energy crises that have occurred – the 1973 oil crisis, the 1979 energy crisis, and the 1990 oil-price hike, apart from several regional crises.
Prices have been rapidly increasing for the last several years, due to the ever-growing demand and the continuing depletion of energy sources.
How long will our resources last? Are the doubters right when they say we are exaggerating the facts, or is the energy crisis a valid problem? Well, think about this: Fifty percent of the world’s oil is gone. At the current rate of consumption, the remainder of the oil will finish in 32 years! What if it didn’t just continue at the same rate, but actually increased? And it’s bound to do so. So it’s possible that even the present generation could face a serious energy crisis.

What can be done?
Are we ready for this impending energy crisis? What can we do to tackle it? First, we need to understand the major role of energy in our lives and stop taking it for granted. We have to minimize the consumption of oil, gas, electricity, and any other fuel. The world cannot afford to waste any available energy. It is also important to broaden awareness about the limited availability of energy resources. Simple things like joining a car pool, switching off car engines at traffic lights, and minimizing the use of gas and oil in everyday activities will help a long way in crisis-preparedness.
What alternative energy options are there?
Solar energy and wind energy are two great alternative energy sources that a concerned and responsible world citizen can implement. It is both practical and cost-effective to use these alternative power solutions. You will not only cut down your utility costs but also contribute to a better future of the world.
