Obama High Speed Rail Plan

Obama has unveiled his plan for several routes of High Speed Rail tracks in different sections of the US. This is a pretty aggressive plan and is part of the stimulus package with 8 billion dollars going to this project. The US is way behind other countries with High Speed Trains and this is one of the reasons Obama has proposed this High Speed Train project. It should save energy.
Of course the success of this High Speed Rail system will depend on whether people actually ride the trains. While trains are acceptable transportation in other parts of the world such as Europe and Asia, it never really caught on in the US. Amtrak has been around for years but its received a lower share of the transportation market and is pretty much bankrupt in most areas.
While I applaud Obama’s plan for a High Speed Rail system, I’m not sure people will actually ride it. People in the US value their space and being cramped together with hundreds of others while they travel is probably not something most people will want to do. We’ll just have to wait and see if Obama’s High Speed Rail plan actually has any passengers after he spends our tax dollars on this project.
