Fight The Smears

Barak Obama or one of his supporters has created a website designed to Fight the Smears as they call it. The site is located at http://www.fightthesmears.com and attempts to dispel some of the rumors running around the net about Barak Obama. I took a quick look at the site and it does seem to cover several of the many rumors running around the web. These range from the alleged Michelle Obama Whitey Video to rumors that Barak Obama would not release his birth certificate. Well this is all fine and dandy and I’m glad to see some official communication from the Obama camp on these rumors. Of course it does make me wonder why they feel the need to put up content on these subjects. Especially the Michelle Obama Whitey video.
Now I understand why they are denying her saying these words as they would be detrimental to the Obama campaign if such a tape did exist. Not long after Larry Johnson posted about this alleged tape and many blogs including this one picked up the story and posted it, then many Obama supporters immediately admitted there was a tape but the words spoken where not Whitey, but Why’d He as she was speaking about Bush.
Now this is where I get confused. If there was not any tape then why would the supporters start saying this. Was this just something that the Obama supporters picked up in some forum or group or did they get this information from the Obama camp. Either it came from the Obama camp or someone made up the story to discredit what Larry posted about. As I have always said, I have no hard data that this tape exists or does not exist, but I have heard from sources. And apparently other people had heard the tape exists from various sources. One thing I learned from the fight the smears website is the Rush Limbagh mentioned this too. I was not aware of that. Of course he may have picked it up from Larry Johnson’s original post or it may have come form another source.
The part I’m not clear about is why is Obama making any sort of semi official statement on this subject at all. One of the first rules of politics is that you don’t deny something such as this when there is not any concrete proof of something. This makes me even more suspicious and I’m sure as I start my daily routine of checking out other blogs, I’ll see a lot of comments on this subject.
Seems to me that the alleged Michelle Obama Whitey video rumor had died down, so why bring it back to the forefront with a denial? I don’t understand what the strategy is with this move and it may serve to hurt Obama more in the end than any denial may help dispel these rumors.
Of course if the tape does exist and its released now that its been officially denied, it may prompt the people who may have it to go ahead and post it to YouTube or have it aired on one of the Fox News programs such as Hannity and Colmes. We’ll just have to see what plays out over the next few days. Fight the smears seems to be attracting some people
