Party Unity My Ass - Puma
The DNC has been pushing for unity in the democratic party, but will they get it. There is a growing divide with long time democrats and many are calling for a new party. The name of this proposed party is PUMA which stands for Party Unity My Ass. The leaders of the DNC such as Howard Dean just expect these people to fall in line and support the presumptive nominee, Barak Obama but with each passing day more and more blogs are publishing stories that may throw a kink in Dean’s plan. A lot of this was spurred by the Rules Committee decision on May 31st on the handling of the delegates in Michigan and Florida. I’m not going to debate that decision as it been covered enough already. I personally would be what is called a Reagan Democrat which is just another word for a moderate. There are Reagan Republicans too. In fact there are probably more moderates than anyone else and those are the people the democrats are going to need to convince if they hope to elect Obama in the fall. From looking at the blogsphere that may prove to be difficult. Of course it does not help that a lot of people who support Obama immediately attack any blogger who may not support Obama with vile and unflattering comments. This only serves to fuel the fire and creates a wider divide of the party.
Now I’m sure there are a good number of moderates who do support Obama, but the loudest people are also the rudest and do not help to gain party unity. This is proven by such grassroot movements as PUMA. Personally I won’t be voting for Obama, I just don’t believe he is telling the truth about a lot of items. I also question his character as he has kept some questionable associates over the years. These are enough reasons for me to vote Republican in the Fall. I voted for Mccain before in the 2000 primaries, but not Bush in either General Election, so it won’t bother me one bit to cast my vote for him again.
Whether Party Unity My Ass — PUMA catches on or not is still to be seen, but this is a different world. Anyone can start a blog in a matter of minutes, on places such as blogger or Wordpress.com, with absolutely no investment of any kind. YouTube videos can be created and uploaded in minutes by anyone to convey their opinions on certain subjects. These blog posts and videos are instantly available to anyone in the world and Google will serve up the content with a variety of search phrases. This makes it a lot easier to get a grass roots type movement such as PUMA off the ground and a lot of people talking about it.

“I just don’t believe he is telling the truth about a lot of items. I also question his character as he has kept some questionable associates over the years.”
I realize my responding to this particular bit is completely tangential to the issues in your post but two thoughts:
1) So while you don’t “believe” Obama is telling the truth, you’d rather choose McCain, who has either flipped and flopped or entirely contradicted himself on issues such as Roe V Wade, torture, tax cuts for the wealthy, veterans support, etc.?
2) Obama’s “questionable associates” - all of whom he is no longer associated with - aren’t outweighed by McCain’s connections to the anti-semitic, homophobic Hagee, or the huge amount of lobbyists that were working for his campaign, or his adulterous lifestyle?
I absolutely support your decision to vote for McCain, but if you’re going to level specific arguments against Obama, at least put both candidates under the same lens.

Well Haggee was not Mccain’s pastor for 20 years. You can say he is no longer associated with these people, but the fact remains that he did spend a lot of time with them and any logical person can assume he had something in common with Wright, Pfleger, and Rezko or he would not have been hanging out with them for all those years. If you can overlook these items then go ahead but personally, I can’t overlook them. What ever you say about Mccain you can’t question his patrotism and loyalty to this country. I’m not sure anyone can honestly say they don’t have doubts about whether Obama actaully loves the country where he wants to be President.
I don’t need to say anything negative about Mccain as it will come out in the comments pretty much as soon as I hit publish

1. Instead of PUMA lets call it Cut off Your Nose to Spite Your Faced. PUMA is a place for McCainites to attempt to spilt Dems. So we should vote for McCain because you are upset that Clinton lost. Yes lets vote for a man who will leave more soldiers to die in Iraq and not care for them if they get home because your mad. Yes lets vote for a man who will make paper hats out of Roe v. Wade because your mad. Yes lets vote for a man who believes that Bush economics work and will extend and add more tax cuts for the wealthy because you are mad. Lets vote for more people who will subvert the enviroment and kow-tow to Oil. Hillary Clinton rejected that notion and I would hope that her followers would reject it as well. This election is too important with too many lives and livelihoods at stake to chose based upon PUMA silliness. My thought is that the founder of PUMA never planned to vote for Hillary or Obama. Yes yes lets vote for John McBush
