Google Sync

Google has been working hard to break into the mobile market. First they introduced their own version of a PDA device and now they have Google Sync which allows you to synchronize your gmail data with several different phone models including the iPhone. The iPhone is what caught my eye as its one thing I’ve been missing. I use gmail almost exclusively for my email, but I have not really used the calendar functions or contacts from gmail. One of the reasons is the Calendar function and contacts did not sync with my phone. Google sync may change that. I’m still going to look at it some more before I install it on my iPhone as I need to make sure its not one of those apps which void the iPhone warranty, but Google Sync looks very interesting.

Some features of Google Sync include:

Gmail sync. Get your Gmail pushed directly to your iPhone. Your inbox is always up to date no matter where you are, or what you’re doing.

Synchronize your contacts. Get your Google contacts quickly and easily to your iPhone. With Sync, you can have access to your address book at anytime and place that you need it.

Get calendar alerts. Using your iPhone’s native calendar, you can now access multiple Google calendars, and be alerted for upcoming appointments with sound or vibration.

Important! Google Sync uses the Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync® protocol. When setting up a new Exchange ActiveSync account on your iPhone, existing data may be removed from your phone. Please make sure to back up before you set up Google Sync.

As with any service using push technology, Google Sync may cause increased usage of your device’s battery.

Welcome back!
