I searched Florida's Unclaimed money database and found $20000 dollars in unclaimed money owed to me.
According to the Bureau of Unclaimed Property in Florida there is over 1 billion dollars in unclaimed money waiting in Florida for the rightful owners to claim. Florida is different that some states as the funds in unclaimed money are held in an account to support school activities. This does not mean you can not claim your unclaimed money in Florida as they will provide it to you if you fill out there request form at http://www.fltreasurehunt.org/
You should also realize that Florida auctions off unclaimed property at different times of the year and these auctions will allow you to pick up some great deals on unclaimed property that others may have forgotten about and not claimed. These auctions are held at various times through out the year and you can get on the email list and the Florida Chief Financial Officer will email you when the next auction is set to be held.
There is a lot more unclaimed property than just cash. In addition to money and securities, unclaimed property includes tangible property such as watches, jewelry, coins, currency, stamps, historical items and other miscellaneous articles from abandoned safe deposit boxes. You can search for any unclaimed property you may have coming to you and as long as you can prove it belongs to you then your can receive the unclaimed property. It takes more than just a name to prove ownership as a lot of people have the same name. Searching by your name should start you on your search for unclaimed property in Florida.
